Ergonomics is becoming more and more of an issue, as study after study confirms that sitting for long periods is detrimental to our health. It seems like sitting has become the new smoking. Below are some links to recent articles detailing the current thinking on the topic.
Being over 40, and having logged a significant amount of time sitting, I thought it might be a good idea to make some changes for myself. So I researched a cheap-as-all-get-out ($24) solution from Ikea to give the standing desk idea a whirl. Here’s the link. It works!
Additionally I came across this little free app which locks you out of your computer for 10 minutes every hour however, the parameters are adjustable. Works great. That and the addition of a Nike fuel band has made a tangible difference in my sense of well-being at work. Think of all the money you’ll save on fancy Herman Miller chairs too!
